Intervista a Francesca Michielin: e abbiamo detto tutto!

Non c'è bisogno di titoli a effetto per presentare l'intervista alla nostra rappresentante a Stoccolma! Ha già conquistato tutti con la sua simpatia e la sua semplicità, oltre che per il suo talento, e adesso vi conquisterà anche con la sua comunicativa e con la sua dialettica. Eccovi l'intervista che abbiamo realizzato con lei, in attesa di accoglierla a Stoccolma all'arrivo del suo mini tour "Beat the street", del quale vi abbiamo parlato nel precedente articolo.

La parola a Francesca!

OGAE Italy: Ciao Francesca! Siamo felici di scambiare ancora due parole con te, in questi giorni a dir poco frenetici e in attesa di vederti di nuovo a Stoccolma. Noi di OGAE Italy siamo orgogliosi di te quale nostra rappresentante, sia dal punto di vista artistico sia per il tuo essere così disponibile e carina con i fans, cosa che ti fa onore. Grazie per la tua gentilezza e semplicità!

Quando ci siamo incontrati, alla fine del tuo showcase, la sera prima del Festival di Sanremo, ci hai detto che ti sarebbe piaciuto vincerlo principalmente perché questo ti avrebbe permesso di rappresentarci all’Eurovision Song Contest. Nel giro di cinque giorni, è successo tutto e il contrario di tutto: il tuo secondo posto, la vittoria degli Stadio, la loro rinuncia e il tuo essere scelta come nostra rappresentante. Sinceramente, ti saresti mai aspettata tutto questo?

Francesca Michielin: Assolutamente no! Per me era già un sogno essere sul palco di Sanremo.

Da fan dell’Eurovision poi ho sempre dichiarato che sarebbe stato per me un vero onore potervi partecipare ma non avrei mai pensato che si sarebbe realizzato tutto.

L’atmosfera che si respira all’Eurovision è di vera condivisione, anche tra gli artisti: ho cominciato ad incontrare i miei “compagni di viaggio” prima ad Amsterdam e poi a Londra, abbiamo fatto subito amicizia, ci scambiamo consigli, battute e ci confrontiamo su tutto. Come dice il motto “come together”…è proprio così. Ora sono molto concentrata in vista dell’ESC, sto lavorando sulla performance, sulla “resistenza fisica” (vado in palestra tutti i giorni) e sul mio inglese (guardo film in lingua originale e, appena posso, faccio conversazione in lingua), per me è un impegno molto serio, ho la responsabilità di fare bene rappresentando il mio paese.

OGAE Italy: Immagino che le ore più difficili siano state quelle dopo la fine del Festival, quando la decisione degli Stadio era in bilico e, ovviamente, la tua speranza si era riaccesa. Che cosa ti è passato per la testa, in quelle ore?

Francesca Michielin: Ero già felicissima per il mio secondo posto: è una grandissima soddisfazione trovarsi sul podio del Festival della Musica italiana con gli Stadio, una delle band storiche e più importanti della nostra musica, a 21 anni e alla mia prima esperienza sanremese!

Quando poi mi hanno detto che avrei rappresentato l’Italia all’Eurovision sono rimasta pietrificata e poi sono esplosa di gioia; non smetterò mai di ringraziare gli Stadio per l’opportunità che mi hanno regalato e alla RAI per avermi scelto come rappresentante.

Sto lavorando per dare il meglio di me con questa partecipazione, anche per ripagare la loro fiducia.

OGAE Italy: Fra l’altro, proprio nei giorni del Festival i fans avevano promosso una petizione online per chiedere la tua nomina a rappresentante italiana all’Eurovision. Quanto ha significato per te quel gesto, e quanto realmente credi che queste iniziative possano influire su di una decisione del genere?

Francesca Michielin: Non so quanto possa influire ma posso dire che per me è un grandissimo attestato di stima e di affetto: l’Eurovision Song Contest è un evento musicale in grado di raggiungere una platea televisiva sterminata, sparsa in tutti i paesi del mondo (lo ha citato anche il Presidente Obama!) dove si presentano artisti di oltre 40 paesi che ormai travalicano anche i confini europei (penso a Israele o Australia) e pensare che il pubblico abbia pensato a me per rappresentare il mio paese non può che inorgoglirmi e spingermi a fare il meglio possibile.

OGAE Italy: Tu sei probabilmente la più entusiasta verso l’Eurovision Song Contest fra i nostri rappresentanti dal 2011 a ora. Che cosa ti affascina tanto di questa manifestazione? Che significato le dai, che cosa ti aspetti, come la immagini?

Francesca Michielin: Io sono una grande fan dell’Eurovision, e come me anche tutta la mia famiglia. Ho sempre visto questa manifestazione come un evento europeo, un momento di unione e condivisione, un evento dome protagonista è la musica, in tutte le sue sfaccettature, e i messaggi che è in grado di trasmettere. Ho respirato un po’ di aria Eurovisiva già alle preview di Amsterdam e Londra e quello che si sente è grande energia, voglia di conoscersi, di scambiarsi esperienze, consigli e visioni artistiche. A Stoccolma poi saremo tutti insieme, la condivisione sarà molto intensa.

OGAE Italy: Non è facile, per un’artista che ha già intrapreso un’ottima carriera, pensare di mettersi in gioco in una competizione come Sanremo o come l’Eurovision Song Contest. Non ti spaventa la gara? Non la vedi anche un poco come un rischio?

Francesca Michielin: Prima di tutto io mi sento all’inizio della mia carriera, ho ancora tantissime esperienze da fare e possibilità di crescita.

Sanremo è IL festival della musica in Italia, un po’ di paura ci vuole! Tantissimi artisti molto famosi raccontano come il palco dell’Ariston sia il più difficile in assoluto da affrontare…credo sia vero perché rappresenta la storia della musica italiana, le sue eccellenze e perché davanti alla TV c’è veramente tutto il paese e le critiche sono, a volte, molto dure. Ma sono salita con l’incoscienza dei miei 20 anni, la voglia di fare bene e con alle spalle tanta preparazione, tante prove e il desiderio di far arrivare a tutti il messaggio di “Nessun grado di separazione”. Ed è esattamente quello che sto facendo per l’Eurovision: mi preparo per salire sul palco e affrontare questa esperienza nel miglior modo possibile.

E poi nella vita bisogna prendere dei rischi per andare avanti, per confrontarsi con se stessi e gli altri e anche, perché no, per tenere i piedi sempre ben saldi a terra.

OGAE Italy: Hai deciso di mantenere il brano sanremese “Nessun grado di separazione” traducendo in inglese il ritornello e facendolo diventare “No degree of separation”. Come sei arrivata a questa decisione, sia rispetto al brano da presentare che alla lingua nella quale interpretarlo?

Francesca Michielin: Non è stata una scelta facile, ci ho pensato molto e mi sono confrontata con il mio team.

So che l’italiano è una lingua molto musicale che il pubblico di tutti i paesi ama ascoltare, ma allo stesso tempo volevo che il messaggio di “No Degree of Separation” arrivasse forte e potente a tutti e inserire un ritornello in inglese mi è sembrata la soluzione migliore.

OGAE Italy: E, sempre a proposito della canzone, hai in programma di inciderne una versione completamente in inglese, o magari anche in altre lingue?

Francesca Michielin: Sarebbe fantastico! Chi non sognerebbe di farlo? Ma per ora mi concentro sulla versione che porterò a Stoccolma.

OGAE Italy: “Nessun grado di separazione” può essere letto come un messaggio forte e importante, in un momento storico nel quale, purtroppo, le divisioni sono ben presenti e talmente evidenti da sembrare irreparabili. Quanto può aiutare, il messaggio contenuto in una canzone, ad avvicinare le persone fra di loro, anche in un contesto internazionale come l’Eurovision Song Contest?

Francesca Michielin: Il motto 2016 di ESC è “Come together”, lo scorso anno era “Building bridges”: nello spirito dell’Eurovision Song Contest è ben radicato il concetto di unione e coesione. La mia canzone parla esattamente di questo:

Non c’è più nessuna divisione fra di noi

Siamo una sola direzione in questo universo che si muove

Non c’è nessun grado di separazione

Sono tempi difficili per l’Europa, tempi in cui è facile perdere la speranza, in cui abbiamo bisogni di messaggi forti, anche attraverso la musica e parole importanti come queste.

OGAE Italy: Parliamo del tuo tour e della serie di firmacopie che ti hanno portata nelle più importanti città italiane. Che tipo di esperienza è stata? Come hai percepito il tuo rapporto con il pubblico, sia dal palco che nell’ambiente più ristretto dei negozi di musica?

Francesca Michielin: Il mio tour “Nice To Meet You” è stata per me una vera palestra, era un modo per farmi conoscere, così come sono, con la mia musica e i miei strumenti nei club, in giro per l’Italia.

E’ stato formativo perché mi sono trovata a confrontarmi sia con il mio pubblico ma anche con i frequentatori abituali dei club che magari non mi conoscevano proprio. Devo dire che la reazione è stata molto positiva, sono riuscita nel mio intento: farli entrare nel mio mondo J

I firmacopie per me sono vere e proprie iniezioni di fiducia e di affetto!

OGAE Italy: Stoccolma si avvicina. Intanto incrociamo le dita, ma… e dopo? Quali progetti hai, una volta terminata questa esperienza che, ti auguriamo, sarà straordinaria?

Francesca Michielin: Io non so stare ferma...non ci riesco proprio. Anche quando ero più piccola e andavo a scuola per me l’estate era la stagione più complicata, non vedevo l’ora tornasse settembre per riprendere le lezioni! Ed è ancora così: ad ottobre, infatti, riparto in tour, questa volta anche con la mia band, per far conoscere ancora qualcosa di me.

OGAE Italy: Grazie mille Francesca, per essere stata ancora una volta così gentile e avere risposto a tutte queste domande. Ci vediamo a Stoccolma, e nel frattempo ti facciamo tantissimi “in bocca al lupo” per una pioggia di “twelve points”!

Da Bassano a Stoccolma: comincia il viaggio di Francesca Michielin!

Parte domani da Piazza Libertà di  Bassano del Grappa il viaggio di Francesca Michielin verso l'Eurovision Song Contest di Stoccolma.

Un viaggio in autobus che la porterà a toccare Vienna, Varsavia, Berlino e Copenaghen arrivando a Stoccolma venerdì della prossima settimana, il 6 maggio.

In ogni tappa inconterà i suoi fan e i fan dell'Eurovision, a partire dal bagno di folla previsto domani alle 14 nella sua Bassano.

Alle 16 l'autobus partirà verso l'Austria e il giorno dopo, sabato 30, sarà già a Vienna per l'incontro con i fan e con la sua "collega" austriaca Zoë.

La sera stessa l'autobus ripartirà verso la Polonia per arrivare a Varsavia domenica 1 maggio, anche qui per incontrare i fan locali.

Il giorno successivo l'autobus ripartirà verso la Germania, dove saranno due gli appuntamenti: ad Amburgo negli studi radio e tv della NDR  martedì 3 e a Berlino per l'incontro con i fan mercoledì 4.

Giovedì 5 l'autobus arriverà in Danimarca per l'incontro a Copenaghen.

Il giorno dopo, venerdì 6, passando per il ponte sull'Öresund, arriverà in Svezia e nel pomeriggio sarà finalmente a Stoccolma, dove saremo pronti a darle il benvenuto.

Jüri Pootsmann: adesso premo il "Play"!

E' giovanissimo, ma già molto determinato: Jüri Pootsmann, che rappresenterà l'Estonia all'Eurovision Song Contest con la canzone "Play", ha già al suo attivo molte esperienze e molti successi. Adesso si presenta davanti all'Europa con la stessa grinta che l'ha già visto trionfare in patria.

Prima della sua partenza per Stoccolma, abbiamo scambiato due parole con lui. Ecco quello che ci ha raccontato di se, della sua canzone e del bellissimo momento che sta vivendo.

OGAE Italy: Ciao Jüri, piacere di conoscerti! Grazie di avere accettato questa intervista, e congratulazioni per essere stato scelto quale rappresentante dell'Estonia all'Eurovision Song Contest di quest'anno!

La finale dell'Eesti Laul è stata davvero emozionante, ma, crediamo, anche molto dura per i partecipanti: prima siete stati ridotti a tre interpreti, poi c'è stata un'altra votazione per decidere il rappresentante del vostro Paese. Come ti sei sentito durante tutto questo processo, e qual è stato il tuo primo pensiero quando hai sentito il tuo nome come vincitore dell'Eesti Laul?

Jüri Pootsmann: Eh sì, è stata piuttosto dura! L'Eesti Laul è una gara molto emozionante e sono felice di averla vinta! E' stato in effetti un procedimento molto lungo, ma mi sono mantenuto calmo. Sinceramente, non mi aspettavo niente e sono stato molto sorpreso quando mi hanno detto che ero il vincitore.

OGAE Italy: Fino all'ultimo sei anche stato in competizione con il complesso Cartoon. Alla fine, loro sono arrivati terzi. Al momento della gara, avevi già registrato insieme a loro la canzone "I remember U", che è stata pubblicata dopo l'Eesti Laul. Non è stato un poco strano dover competere con un complesso con il quale avevi appena collaborato?

Jüri Pootsmann: Vero, abbiamo registrato insieme questa canzone, e penso che sia davvero un pezzo fantastico! In realtà non è stato strano, perché sono tutti miei amici, e in quel momento quello su cui eravamo concentrati era l'imminente uscita della canzone!

OGAE Italy: Parlando di Eurovision Song Contest, qual era il tuo atteggiamento verso di esso prima di vincere l'Eesti Laul? Lo guardavi ogni anno, eri già un fan della manifestazione?

Jüri Pootsmann: Sì, io e la mia famiglia lo guardavamo sempre! Penso che sia un evento importante per la maggior parte delle famiglie estoni. Negli ultimi anni ci riunivamo con i nostri amici, facevamo la sauna e mangiavamo un po' di buon cibo, e poi guardavamo la trasmissione. Era fantastico!

OGAE Italy: Parliamo della tua canzone "Play", scritta da Stig Rästa. Leggendo il testo, sembra una descrizione del momento in cui qualcosa sta iniziando. Qual è il suo vero significato per te? Ha una connessione, in qualche modo, con la tua vita?

Jüri Pootsmann: E' veramente una canzone molto importante per me: descrive qualcosa che è successo nella mia vita, questo nuovo inizio, esattamente nel momento in cui l'abbiamo registrata. Per questo sono così felice di poterla cantare.

OGAE Italy: La tua canzone è in Inglese, il che è molto comune, al giorno d'oggi, all'Eurovision Song Contest. Quali sono i motivi per la scelta dell'Inglese in luogo dell'Estone? Inciderai anche una versione Estone della canzone?

Jüri Pootsmann: Penso sia stato del tutto naturale scegliere l'Inglese invece dell'Estone, e in effetti è abbastanza comune all'Eurovision. Non penso che incideremo una versione Estone della canzone, rimarrà in Inglese!

 OGAE Italy: Hai iniziato la tua carriera vincendo il talent show "Eesti Otsib Superstaari". Cosa puoi dirci di quella esperienza? Pensi che i talent show siano solo un modo per raggiungere visibilità e successo, oppure possono anche insegnare qualcosa ai concorrenti?

Jüri Pootsmann: I talent show sono, sì, un modo di raggiungere fama e successo, ma a me hanno insegnato molto! Ho imparato molte cose circa l'ambiente musicale, sul come lavorare con persone diverse, e personalmente sono cresciuto molto in quel periodo. Ma, naturalmente, ci sono molte più difficoltà nella vita reale. In ogni caso, apprezzo l'esperienza che ne ho ricevuto, è stato un bel cammino per arrivare al mondo della musica.

OGAE Italy: Malgrado il tuo essere così giovane, lo scorso anno sei stato nominato Best Male Act agli Estonian Music Awards. Possiamo dire che tu abbia iniziato la tua carriera con tre vittorie! Adesso stai andando a Stoccolma a rappresentare l'Estonia: quali sono le tue speranze e aspettative?

Jüri Pootsmann: Sì, è vero, sono stato molto onorato di ricevere quel premio! Riguardo all'Eurovision, spero veramente di potermelo godere fino in fondo. Non si sa mai che cosa può riservare un'esperienza del genere: voglio solo prenderne tutto quello che posso e imparare il più possibile. E' veramente una grande opportunità per acquistare tanta esperienza.

OGAE Italy: Sappiamo che adesso l'Eurovision Song Contest è il tuo primo pensiero, ma quali sono i tuoi progetti per il dopo? Un tour, o magari il tuo primo LP dopo il tuo EP?

Jüri Pootsmann: Dopo l'Eurovision Song Contest inizieremo a lavorare sul mio primo LP. Uscirà entro l'anno, e non vedo l'ora!

OGAE Italy: Vorremmo sapere qualcosa circa le tue influenze musicali. Quali sono gli artisti e i gruppi che ti piacciono di più e che ascolti spesso? Diresti che la loro musica ti ha in qualche modo influenzato?

Jüri Pootsmann: Ho sempre ascoltato molta musica di generi diversi. Non riesco a dire chi siano i miei preferiti, ci sono così tanti fantastici artisti che mi ispirano!

OGAE Italy: Ultimo, ma non meno importante, siamo curiosi di sapere se conosci la musica italiana, se la ascolti e quali sono i tuoi artisti preferiti.

Jüri Pootsmann: Sfortunatamente non so molto della vostra scena musicale. Ma amo molto la vostra canzone dell'Eurovision Song Contest di quest'anno, e la vostra cantante ha una voce così bella! Sono impaziente di incontrarla!

Argo, il viaggio e l'utopia

Da "Europond" ad "Argo": per rappresentare la Grecia all'Eurovision Song Contest, hanno cambiato nome. Con la loro nuova identità, iniziano il loro viaggio verso Stoccolma alla ricerca della loro "Utopian land".

Siete stati selezionati internamente per rappresentare il vostro Paese. Qual è stata la vostra prima reazione quando vi è stato chiesto di rappresentare la Grecia? Avete detto subito di sì o avete avuto qualche dubbio?

Argo: Nessun dubbio: l'onore di rappresentare il nostro Paese all'Eurovision Song Contest è immenso, e ci sentiamo estremamente grati.

OGAE Italy: Prima che fosse annunciata la vostra partecipazione all'Eurovision Song Contest vi chiamavate "Europond", ma avete cambiato il vostro nome. Perché avete deciso di cambiarlo, e da dove viene "Argo"?

Argo: Abbiamo iniziato la nostra collaborazione come gruppo 10 anni fa con il nome "Europond", e adesso continuiamo a lavorare insieme con il nuovo nome "Argo". Abbiamo scelto questo nuovo nome perché vediamo in questo modo il viaggio che stiamo per fare. Come gli Argonauti, iniziamo il nostro viaggio che ha per destinazione finale Stoccolma, per vincere il "Vello d'oro", che, in questo caso, non è altro che una presentazione professionale della nostra canzone al 61° Eurovision Song Contest.

OGAE Italy: La vostra canzone "Utopian land" parla della voglia di andarsene da una situazione difficile e spostarsi verso un mondo migliore, una terra migliore. A che cosa si ispira, qual è per voi il suo vero significato?

Argo: La nostra ispirazione viene dalla vita reale, dalle nostre esperienze di ogni giorno e anche dalla storia dei nostri antenati così come ce l'hanno narrata i nostri genitori e i nostri nonni. Il messaggio della nostra canzone tratta di persone che si uniscono per creare qualcosa di ideale. Come sapete bene, "utopia" non vuol dire impossibile, ma ideale. "Utopia" è un termine che descrive essenzialmente una società immaginaria, che ha un sistema sociale, politico e legale apparentemente perfetto. Questo termine era usato per descrivere società che cercavano di creare qualcosa di grande. Per noi, la terra dell'utopia è un posto difficile da trovare, ma non impossibile. Ciascuno di noi ha il suo proprio ideale nella mente.

OGAE Italy: L'Eurovision Song Contest è solitamente noto come il regno delle canzoni di facile ascolto, le cosiddette "La-la-la songs". Il vostro brano ha delle parole importanti, e la musica si alterna con l'hip hop. Quale pensate possa essere la reazione del pubblico eurovisivo?

Argo: Crediamo che il pubblico apprezzerà la differenza della nostra musica e la nostra combinazione di musica moderna e tradizionale. La nostra musica è un mix di tradizione e contemporaneità. La composizione di "Utopian land" è ispirata alla tradizione musicale Pontica, ed è combinata con l'hip hop contemporaneo. E' un approccio moderno alle difficoltà che la gente di tutto il mondo sta affrontando al giorno d'oggi, viste attraverso gli occhi dei giovani che fanno esperienza, essi stessi, nel loro proprio viaggio.

OGAE Italy: Metà Inglese e metà Greco: sembra un buon compromesso. Quali sono le ragioni di questa scelta? Perché avete deciso di cantare in due lingue?

Argo: Per raggiungere un pubblico più vasto e perché volevamo che il testo della nostra canzone venisse facilmente capito da una grande varietà di persone.

OGAE Italy: Inciderete anche diverse versioni della vostra canzone? Tutto in Inglese, tutto in Greco o magari in qualche altra lingua?

Argo: No, non abbiamo in programma di farlo.

OGAE Italy: E' stato deciso, solo per quanto riguarda la vostra esibizione a Stoccolma, di sostituire uno dei vostri membri, Elias Kesides, con il ballerino e cantante Vasilis Roxenos, per rendere la vostra esibizione più spettacolare e accattivante. Che cosa aggiungerà Vasilis alla vostra performance? Potete già dirci qualcosa circa lo staging?

Argo: E' vero, Vasilis sarà con noi sul palco. Abbiamo deciso congiuntamente che un ballerino professionale avrebbe notevolmente aiutato la nostra performance sul palco e abbiamo chiesto che Vasilis Roxenos entrasse nel nostro team. Abbiamo preso questa decisione tutti insieme con lo scopo finale di ottenere il miglior risultato possibile per la nostra esibizione.

OGAE Italy: L'Eurovision Song Contest ha lo scopo di unire persone di Paesi diversi per mezzo della musica, ma è anche una gara: come immaginate il posto, l'atmosfera? Quali sono le vostre speranze e aspettative?

Argo: Ora come ora vediamo il viaggio eurovisivo come unico, e aspettiamo con ansia il momento di partire e di incontrare tutti a Stoccolma, oltre che di esibirci sul palco della Ericsson Globe Arena. Amiamo questo entusiasmo creativo, che è un sentimento predominante, e lo spirito che prevale, l'attenzione alla musica.

OGAE Italy: Parliamo della musica che amate e ascoltate. Quali solisti e gruppi sono i vostri preferiti, e quanto direste che hanno influenzato la vostra musica?

Argo: Ascoltiamo ogni tipo di musica e amiamo usare diverse combinazioni quando scriviamo la nostra. Dal moderno al tradizionale, e dal jazz al lindy hop.

OGAE Italy: Per ultimo, ma non meno importante: ascoltate musica Italiana? Ci sono solisti o gruppi che amate particolarmente, qualche canzone preferita?

Argo: Abbiamo molte canzoni preferite per quanto riguarda la musica italiana! Per esempio, amiamo Biagio Antonacci e la sua canzone "Dimenticarti è poco", Emma Marrone con "Non è l'inferno", Renato Carosone con "Tu vuo' fa' l'americano", Domenico Modugno con "Nel blu dipinto di blu" e per ultimo, ma non meno importante, "Caruso" di Lucio Dalla!
